Catching Your Bus
In most areas buses have designated stops. Most services observe all stops along the route except at Bus Stations where stops are individually marked. If you are unsure of which stop or which side of the road to stand ask a local resident.
Buses do run punctually. Try to be at the stop at least a few minutes before your bus is due to leave.
To stop your bus, clearly signal the driver. All buses show the final destination for that journey and most show the route number.
Boarding Your Bus
On all buses you pay the driver on entry, so have your money and any passes ready. Change is normally given.
Alighting From Your Bus
In most cases the vehicle will be fitted with bell pushes that can be used to indicate to the driver that you wish to get off at the next stop. If bell pushes are not available call out to the driver to indicate your wish to get off at the next stop. In either case, for reasons of safety, remain seated until the bus stops. Ask the driver’s advice if you do not know where to catch your return or connecting journey.
Fares and Regulations
On commercial services the fares charged are decided by the operator. Please note that on these services, return tickets issued by another operator MAY NOT be accepted. It is advisable to check that the bus you want to return on is operated by the same operator, or whether your return ticket will be valid.
Fares charged on services supported by the County Council are approved by the Council.
A ticket may only be used by the person who bought it and is not transferable.
Children from age 5 to under 14 (16 on County Council supported services) generally travel at half fare at all times on services running in North Yorkshire. Up to two accompanied children under 5 may travel free of charge. Different regulations are applied in West Yorkshire.
Dogs are carried, subject to the driver’s agreement, and payment of appropriate fare.
